The Kebzaritto - In Pictures

The last update in March promised a visual delight of the Kebzaritto, and here, only 2 months later is the results from that night.

The Kebabs, mine on the right, with ALL the meats and XXL moniker.

They're pretty sizable as you can see, and chuck full of stuff.

Unfortunately the people at Papa Johns failed slightly with the pizza order, when i requested that the pizza's not be sliced, they did anyway :( so it made the final monster somewhat unstable to be held in one piece.

It also meant that some skewers had to be sued to hold bits of it in place...

...As well as a steak knife when we ran out of skewers.

The cross section of this doesnt really do it justice as it was only an end which was fractionally less packed than the middle but still had most of the bits on display.

Lets just say it was challenging to eat.

But. ENTIRELY worth while.

Long time, No seige...

As so often the way, life gets in the way of talking about interesting things in life. Well no more (slacking on updates that is)

In line with the last post about the highly successful Naanza, a new idea came up talking to Vikx. Nearby is a kebab shop who have some really pretty stupidly big kebabs for not a great deal (£7.50). But they're chock full of meat, and wrapped in a naan like a burrito instead of a pita.

But thats not enough, a Kebritto is all well and good, but theres room for more, like a pizza for example. So thats the Kebzaritto, Turkish, Italian and Mexican (ok, only due to the wrapping style). One of the meats in the kebab is chicken tikka, which adds Indian into the fray too, although adding that to the name is hard, other than a Tikka prefix.

The plan as it stands is an XXL 4 meat naan kebab, wrapped in probably a bbq chicken medium pizza (for me) and probably a margarita for Vikx. Then chicken strippers between the pizza and the naan for that american touch and then dip. Lots of dip.

I should probably note, this isnt something i'm going to finish in one sitting, I ate in the last week, therefore that wont happen, but i'll give it a good try.

More to come once this abomination gets made tonight.

The Naanzza: Review Time

Amazing doesn't do this justice. Its no curried chicken as per the original idea (one for another time i suspect) but everything worked perfectly. Just look at it!

Some of the sausage parts were a little over crisp, but everything else was perfect. The naan didn't burn especially and the cheese melted nicely, if anything it could use a little more cheese and a bit less topping so it doesn't fall off as easily, but thats hardly a hardship.

Thankfully the BBQ-Mint sauce worked and it wasn't too strong either way. For what is essentially something throw together form spare parts in the fridge (besides the naan) i think it came out pretty damn good.

The final piece, loaded with the escaped toppings of its fallen brethren. Delicious, and given i got 2 naans at the indian (New Standard Tandoori, Tadley) i can do it again tomorrow with something different \o/.

Cheers to spicypixel, ZeroG, Vikx, TheDon and the other folk on IRC in #multiplay for helping create the awesome of the Naanzza.

The Naanzza

This came from a few people irc talking about pizza with the idea of a keema naan bread as the base of a pizza appeared.

<spicypixel> is it a keema naan style pizza base?!
<Phat-Ass> this needs to be done

<spicypixel> pro tier
<spicypixel> lets get to work
<Phat-Ass> i could actually make one if i went and got a keema naan from the indian :|

<spicypixel> keema naan base, curried chicken topped pizza
<spicypixel> probably easy sell

<Phat-Ass> thius... this needs investigating
<spicypixel> shhh we have evolved this idea now

So it turns out its already been done in a way. Bugger.

<spicypixel> http://66.147.244.218/~londonf4/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/naankeemapizza1.jpg
<spicypixel> oh lordy
<spicypixel> still, little more cheese and tomato and we're golden

Not that it stopped me of course. One trip to the local indian later:

... and i have a naan to use for the base. I checked it had the lamb in, and it did, first success. In keeping with the lamb theme, i had an idea for a sauce. I'm not a huge fan of tomato bases on pizzas, but bbq sauce seemed a bit too sweet for this. Instead....

BBQ-Mint sauce.

Yes it looks weird. but its very minty and takes a lot of the sweetness away from the BBQ sauce. Mix it well and spread:

(apparently i forgot to take that photo, you can imagine it instead)

In a pan, cooked a piece of bacon, then chopped it up with 2 mushrooms, half a yellow pepper and about 2 inches of some cured sausage i had in the fridge.

Nom. Cook them for a few minutes and then add to the Naanzza base.

Finally, the all important cheese. about a handful of grated mature cheddar over the top with some herbs and a few splats of mint sauce for good measure:

How does it taste? I dont know, its currently in the oven and has been for ten minutes or so, given everything is cooked already its just to melt the cheese and make sure its generally properly warm (since the naan was on the side a while during the prep).

Follow up post to come with post cooking and eating pics.
